Operational dashboards
Area: Dashboards & Web Applications · Usual shape: a read-and-decide screen · The source: systems you already run
Most dashboards fail for one reason: they show everything that can be shown rather than what a decision turns on. We start from the decision, not the data — what gets decided daily, by whom, and which number changes the answer — then build the screen around that, including an alert that reaches you instead of waiting to be looked for.

What this solves
- The morning report is assembled by hand from three places.
- Management asks the same three questions every week.
- Two departments quote different numbers for the same thing.
- Nobody notices a problem until somebody complains.
What we build
- Deciding which measures actually change a decision, and dropping the rest.
- Connecting the sources and setting the refresh cycle honestly.
- A main screen readable in about ten seconds.
- Filters and date ranges that get used, rather than every possible one.
- Drill-down from a number to the records behind it.
- Alerts when a threshold is crossed.
- Permissions: who sees which numbers.
- A version for a large screen and one for a phone.
Where it is used
- A morning report assembled by hand.
- Management asking the same questions every week.
- Numbers that disagree between two departments.
- Live operational monitoring on a screen in the workplace.
What this does not include
- We do not build a data warehouse as a separate project inside this scope.
- We do not supply business-intelligence product licences.
- We do not provide forecasting or statistical modelling.
- We cannot display data that was never recorded, and we say so before starting.
How the work goes
- We ask what gets decided, by whom, and how often — before looking at any data.
- We check the sources actually contain what you want to show.
- We build one screen properly rather than six approximately.
- We watch who opens it after a month, because an unopened dashboard is a failed one.

Questions about this service
Where does the data come from?
Your existing systems, through a direct connection or a regular file. We verify that they contain what you want to show before agreeing to show it.
How often do the numbers refresh?
As often as the source genuinely allows, which is not always as often as anyone would like. We state the real refresh interval on the screen rather than implying everything is live.
What if our data is inaccurate?
A dashboard makes inaccurate data more visible, not less. That is often useful — but if the underlying recording is the problem, we will say so rather than building a prettier version of it.
Does it work on a wall display?
Yes, and that is designed for separately. A screen read from across a room needs far fewer numbers and much larger ones than a screen read from a desk.
Can we export what we see?
Yes. Plenty of analysis legitimately continues in a spreadsheet, and blocking export just moves the work somewhere you cannot see it.
